Bogotá (jul. 1/20). Como parte las 18 actividades realizadas por el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores para conmemorar el Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente durante en el mes de junio, y en el marco del Plan de Promoción de Colombia en el Exterior, las Embajadas de Colombia en Hungría, Irlanda, Polonia y Reino Unido destacaron la biodiversidad de Colombia en un conversatorio virtual sobre el documental The Birders: A Melodic Journey Through Northern Colombia, que está disponible en inglés con subtítulos en español en este enlace de Youtube.

El evento retransmitido en directo se grabó y está disponible aquí, para aquellos que no tuvieron la oportunidad de asistir a la actividad en vivo o quienes estén interesados quieren verlo de nuevo.

El evento fue presentado y moderado por la Embajadora de Colombia en Irlanda, Patricia Cortés, quien reafirmó el compromiso de Colombia en preservación del medio ambiente, y resaltó la labor e iniciativas para la protección de la biodiversidad como herramienta fundamental en la lucha contra el cambio climático.

Diego Calderón, uno de los protagonistas del documental, compartió sus experiencias como guía de avistamiento de pájaros, así como sus reflexiones sobre los beneficios del ecoturismo para la conservación y el rol de las nuevas generaciones en el descubrimiento y cuidado de la biodiversidad.

Por su parte, la investigadora de la alianza entre Biodiversity International y CIAT, Carolina Navarrete, presentó alguno de los retos que tiene Colombia en materia de conservación, así como el importante rol que tiene la agricultura sostenible en nuestro país. Añadió la importancia de integrar las buenas prácticas medioambientales que forman parte de las culturas indígenas en las políticas sobre conservación.

Finalmente, la Coordinadora de Colecciones Biológicas del Instituto Humboldt resaltó que para lograr el reto del desarrollo sostenible necesitamos crear alianzas entre las comunidades locales, el sector privado, la academia y el gobierno. Apeló además a la conciencia sostenible a nivel global como consumidores.

El Plan de Promoción de Colombia en el Exterior es una herramienta de diplomacia cultural del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Colombia, cuyo propósito es apoyar el logro de los objetivos de política exterior del Estado colombiano.

Sobre el documental The Birders: A Melodic Journey Through Northern Colombia

The Birders es el resultado de una campaña presentada por ProColombia, con el apoyo de FONTUR. La serie incluye un documental de 50 minutos de duración filmado en el norte de Colombia; y cinco documentales cortos que presentan la Orinoquía (Los Llanos), el Amazonas, los Andes, la costa del Pacífico y el Caribe.

El proyecto de Procolombia y Fontur, incluye un elemento novedoso en el género documental, una banda sonora original inspirada en los cantos de los pájaros compuesta e interpretada por músicos locales, y disponible en Spotify.

La serie documental no solo nos transporta a hermosos paisajes, nos permite apreciar la biodiversidad y la relación estrecha e intrínseca de dicha riqueza natural con la cultura colombiana.

The Embassies in Hungary, Ireland, Poland and the United Kingdom celebrated Colombia's biodiversity with a virtual conversation about the documentary The Birders

As part of the 18 activities carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to commemorate World Environment Day during the month of June, and within the framework of the Plan for the Promotion of Colombia Abroad, the Colombian Embassies in Hungary, Ireland, Poland and the United Kingdom highlighted Colombia's biodiversity in a virtual conversation about the documentary The Birders: A Melodic Journey Through Northern Colombia, which is available in English with Spanish subtitles on YouTube in this link.

The event was presented and moderated by the Colombian Ambassador to Ireland, Patricia Cortés, who reaffirmed Colombia's commitment in environment preservation, and highlighted the work and initiatives undertaken to protect biodiversity as a paramount tool to fight climate change.

Diego Calderón, one of the protagonists of the documentary, shared his experiences as a bird watching guide, and reflected on the benefits of ecotourism in conservation and the role of new generations in the discovery and care of biodiversity.

Carolina Navarrete, researcher from the Alliance from Biodiversity International and CIAT, presented some of the challenges for Colombia in terms of conservation, as well as the important role that sustainable agriculture has in our country. In addition, she highlighted the importance of respecting and blending new preservation policies with the good and ancestral practices of indigenous communities.

Carolina Gómez, third panelist and Coordinator of the Biological Collections at Instituto Humboldt, made a remark about the necessity of creating alliances between local communities, private sector, academia and the government to overcome the challenges of sustainable development.

The Plan for the Promotion of Colombia Abroad is a tool of the cultural diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, serving the purpose of supporting the achievement of foreign policy objectives of the Colombian State.

About the documentary The Birders: A Melodic Journey Through Northern Colombia

The Birders is the result of a campaign presented by ProColombia, with the support of FONTUR. The documentary series includes a long form documentary filmed in Northern Colombia and five short documentaries featuring the Orinoquia (Los Llanos), the Amazon, the Andes, the Pacific coast, and the Caribbean.

The project of Procolombia and Fontur, adds a novelty to the documentary genre: an original soundtrack inspired by birdsongs, composed and performed by local musicians, and available on Spotify.

The documentary series not only allows to contemplate beautiful landscapes, it allows the viewer to appreciate biodiversity and the close and intrinsic relationship between said natural wealth and Colombian culture.
